God has blessed His church with an abundance of books published throughout the history of the church. Yet, we also live hurried lives where the multi-volume works of the Puritans can be intimidating. Even a short book may seem overwhelming.
We want to encourage you at Providence to pursue you joy in God. To this end, we want to highlight books that can be helpful to you.
Practicing Affirmation by Sam Crabtree. This book helps us grow towards Christ-rooted affirmation in all our relationships. If you have time to read one book, we encourage you to read this one.
Delighting In the Trinity by Michael Reeves. This book is the most accessible introduction to who God is. It is also an enjoyable read that will challenge and encourage your understanding of God.
Reforming Marriage by Douglas Wilson. Our marriages are a significant part of our witness to the world. We must rebuild what has been destroyed, care for what is precious, and guard against threats. We must reform our understanding of marriage as it produces a sweet aroma that can be a witness of the power of the gospel.
Same-Sex Attraction and the Church by Ed Shaw. Published in the UK as "The Plausibility Problem," this book helps us be the church and love those who experience same-sex attraction. Beyond that, it encourages the church to not make the Christian life implausible to those who are not married and have kids.
The Man Christ Jesus by Bruce Ware. Don't think that Jesus overcame temptation while he lived on earth just because "he was God." This book will stretch your understanding of the humanity of Jesus and will give you a desire for the Holy Spirit to be at work in your life.
Connecting with Muslims by Fouad Masri. An excellent resource to equip you and encourage you to love Muslims and share with them the best news they can ever receive.
Dispatches from the Front by Tim Keesee. Look beyond the outside of your window. God is moving mightily in our world.
The Gospel at Work by Sebastian Traeger and Greg Gilbert. Because we are called to work to the glory of God, and doing so is a marvelous witness to a world desperate for redemption.
Resisting Gossip by Matthew C. Mitchell. A practical and compelling way to defeat this awful sin.
Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full by Gloria Furman. Mothers are a gift to the world, and this is a resource to lift you up during this season to see Christ as your treasure.
